I just got done watching the final episodes of Angel today. I had set my VCR to tape them all. Of course, I couldn't watch them after taping because my VCR has been acting all wonky and I didn't want to jeopardize the recordings.
I have to say that the last six episodes were good. What I didn't get though, was the second to last one. All of a sudden we have this Circle of the Black Thorn introduced, and then Drogen appears and gets dispatched without much in the way of explanation for how he knows Hamilton or why Angel killed him with such ease. I mean, in the last episode the entire thing doesn't even get brought up. Angel basically murdered his friend and he doesn't even seem phased by it, as though it was just something he had to do like take a shower or change his socks. What gives?

Re: Final Episodes
Mon, May 24, 2004 - 12:58 PMJust so I know I'm not stupid, but Drogen was the guy Angel bites after jumping through flames? Correct? People seemed confused since Drogen was supposed to have eternal life, but maybe that only meant as long as nobody kills him. Like, if nobody drains my blood from my body I could live forever kinda deal...
But it does seem like the circle was just thrown in there in order to make way for an ending to the show, but they did explain it well enough as to why we never heard about them...
Lindsey: It's a secret society,
Gunn: I've never heard of it.
Lindsey: That's because it's secret. -

Re: Final Episodes
Mon, May 24, 2004 - 1:23 PMYeah, Drogen was the guy Angel bites after jumping through the flames. He was the keeper of the Deeper Well, the guy who couldn't lie. I like how he and Illyria, one of his former charges, ended up playing video games together. I also like how he and Hamilton knew each other. Alas, none of this had time to be explored.
I kind of suspected that the whole Circle of the Black Thorn was on the table for this season, only with the cancellation they had to basically introduce it at the last minute so the other stories could be told. The signs were all there, with several of the Circle having been introduced in previous episodes this season.
I jst have an issue with the writers having Angel so cavelierly kill him and not have it bother him more. I know all the last-minute stuff had to happen, but this was one of those things that irritated me on account of I happen to be a real prick about stuff like this when watching or reading a story. -
