That's stoooopid . . . what is she supposed to charge? $100 for a vamp, $2,000 for a demon? How much for averting an Apocalypse? Giles does eventually pay her when he gives her a significant check to bail her out of financial distress after Joyce dies. That would be Council money, coming from Giles. The Council has expenses; did Giles pay for the extensive occult library with his pay from the highschool? Buffy is a chosen one, not a part-time employee. She must do her duty, often with no reward of any sort other than a job well done. Charging fees would totally wreck the whole concept of having a duty that's a burden Buffy at times would rather not have. Even Angel is very reluctant to charge people for saving them. It was Cordelia that eventually got him to start charging for "helping the helpless". And as far as more "Dawnie time", well there's something Buffy SHOULD get paid for; Dawn is a whining, immature, irresponsible, lying, klepto, worthless little brat.

Yes you converted me to the opinion that the Council could have helped Buffy financially from time to time . . . but I still have to stand on my main argument and that is that getting paid would have done nothing but cheapen the storyline. Buffy is Called and Chosen, not hired.

yes- I think the council should have taken care of her- hell, the community should have. but then- how about the teachers, the students, the ...*anyone who is following their calling, just living- not trying to make money*- artisits, musiciians, astronomers, you name it. yeah, even in buffy there is such a strange "reality" involved. those money maker/inventors and takers are vampirish, eh?
